What we store, why we store it, and who else gets to see it.

What we store

This is the whole list:

  • The email address on your account, and your password kept as a hash, so nobody can read it back.
  • Usage counters: how many characters your account used this month, and how many per voice.
  • The text you send to be spoken, kept together with the audio made from it.
  • Payment records: what you bought, when, and for how much.
  • For each sign-in: the address your browser connected from and which browser it was, so we can tell your sessions apart and spot a stolen password.

Who else sees it

Making speech is not something we do entirely on our own machines. Some voices are produced with the help of outside speech providers, and for those the text you send is passed to the provider that speaks it. They produce the audio and return it; they are not allowed to use your text for anything else.

Two more companies are involved in running the service: the cloud storage that holds the audio files, and the mail service that delivers your sign-in codes and receipts. Payments have their own section below.

Nobody else. Your text is not shared with anyone for their own purposes, and we do not sell it.

Why we keep the text

The text is stored next to the audio file it produced. When the same text is asked for again, the answer is the file we already have, so the page speaks straight away instead of waiting for the audio to be made a second time.

Audio files are kept on cloud storage and served from there to your site or your application.

Payments

Payments are handled by Stripe. Card numbers go to Stripe and never reach us, so we cannot see them. What stays on our side is the record of the purchase and the credit it added to your account.

Your email address

We use it for sign-in codes, receipts, and messages about the service. That is all. We do not send marketing email.

Site analytics

We run Umami on our own analytics service at stats.joulyan.com. It records page visits, referring sites, browser and device details, approximate country, region and city, and page performance. It also records five actions: seeing the paid price, starting the public demo, completing sign-up, starting checkout, and completing a purchase.

These records do not contain your name, email address, account id, keys, domains, speech text, audio links, or Stripe ids. A purchase record contains the price, currency, and number of characters. Umami uses the connection address to estimate location but does not store that address. It sets no analytics cookie and respects your browser's Do Not Track setting.

Admin logins are excluded everywhere, including on public pages. Session replay and heatmaps are off, so the analytics service does not record page content, typed text, or mouse movement.

What we do not do

Three things that will not happen with your data:

  • We do not sell personal data, and we do not hand it to anyone for their own marketing.
  • There is no advertising on this service.
  • We do not use advertising trackers or analytics run by an advertising company.

Deleting your account

Write to info@joulyan.com from the address on the account and ask us to delete it. The account itself goes: the login, the keys, the domain list and the usage counters.

The audio and the text that produced it are a separate matter, and we would rather say so than pretend. They live in one shared store, not under your account: when two customers ask for the same sentence in the same voice, that is one file serving both. So it is not something we can remove by deleting an account. If a specific text needs to be gone, say so in the same message and we remove it by hand.

Any other question about your data goes to the same address: info@joulyan.com
