Every letter, number, space and punctuation mark in the text you send. A sentence of forty letters and spaces is forty characters. Only the text that is actually spoken counts.

Most voices count every character once. Premium voices count each character twice, and they carry a x2 badge in your account, so you see it before you use one.

Reading stops until the next month begins, and then your 10,000 characters are back. Nothing is charged and nothing is deleted. To keep going inside the same month, you buy credit.

The free 10,000 are a monthly allowance, so they reset every month instead of piling up. Credit you paid for is different: it never expires, and it stays on your account until you spend it.

No. A request that fails costs nothing, and a reading you stop early only counts the part that was spoken.
